Mumbai : India’s residential real estate
market continued to show resilience in the third quarter of 2026, with housing
sales volume rising 3% to around 1 lakh units. At the same time, developers
stepped up project activity, with new housing launches increasing by 18% during
the quarter.
The rise in
sales indicates that homebuyer demand remains healthy despite changing market
conditions and relatively elevated property prices across several major cities.
Buyers continue to show interest in well-located projects offering better
connectivity, amenities and quality construction.
The sharp
increase in new launches also highlights developers’ confidence in the market.
With demand remaining steady, real estate companies are expanding their project
pipelines and introducing new developments across key residential markets.
Major
metropolitan markets continue to account for a significant share of housing
activity. Cities such as Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and
Chennai remain important drivers of residential demand, supported by employment
opportunities, infrastructure development and improving connectivity.
The growth
in launches, however, also underlines the importance of maintaining a healthy
balance between new supply and actual demand. Developers are increasingly
focusing on projects in locations with strong infrastructure potential and
sustained end-user demand.
The Q3 2026
performance suggests that India’s residential real estate sector remains on a
relatively strong footing. With housing sales reaching around one lakh units
and new launches growing 18%, the sector is expected to remain an important
contributor to economic activity, employment and investment in the coming
quarters.
