Gurugram: Regulatory scrutiny of the real
estate sector has intensified, with the Central GST (CGST) department
conducting searches at multiple premises linked to a prominent real estate
developer in Gurugram.
According to
officials, the operation resulted in the recovery of ₹117 crore towards GST
liability. Authorities also seized documentary and digital evidence that
allegedly indicates suppression of taxable supplies and cash transactions
involving brokers and channel partners.
In a
follow-up search at the residential premises of a linked broker or channel
partner, officials reportedly recovered ₹7.9 crore in concealed cash. The CGST
department said further leads are being developed and the investigation remains
underway.
The action
highlights the increasing focus of tax authorities on compliance and financial
transparency in the real estate sector, particularly transactions involving
developers, brokers and channel partners. The identity of the developer was not
disclosed in the official statement.
