ED Arrests Kolkata Builder in Land-Grab and Illegal Construction Case

 

KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Kolkata-based construction businessman Amit Ganguly in connection with an alleged land-grabbing, document-forgery and illegal construction case.

According to the ED, Ganguly and his associates allegedly targeted high-value properties and used forged agreements, sale deeds, powers of attorney and other documents to create claims over land. The agency has also alleged manipulation of land records and the use of fraudulent documents in civil proceedings.

The investigation further alleges that some of the properties were subsequently developed into real estate projects and sold to buyers, generating alleged proceeds of crime. The ED said more than 20 FIRs have been registered against Ganguly and his associates in West Bengal, mainly relating to alleged land grabbing, cheating and forgery.

Ganguly was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The latest reports state that he was produced before a court in Kolkata and sent to police custody until September 19. The investigation is continuing, with the agency examining documents, digital evidence and financial transactions linked to the alleged property deals.

The case highlights the risks associated with disputed land ownership, forged property documents and unauthorised development in the real estate sector. The allegations remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial process
