Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its city-wide
enforcement drive against dangerous buildings, unauthorised constructions and
violations of building norms, carrying out 40 demolition actions and sealing 16
properties on Tuesday.
The
enforcement exercise was conducted across all 12 zones of the civic body, with
officials also issuing four demolition orders against properties found to be in
violation of applicable regulations.
According
to the MCD, major demolition operations on Tuesday were carried out at Gaushala
Road in Satbari, as well as Vishal Enclave, Hastsal, Vikaspuri Extension and
Uttam Nagar.
In North
Delhi, action was taken in the Subzi Mandi area, while enforcement teams also
carried out operations in New Seelampur, Mayur Vihar Phase-I and Pandav Nagar in
the East Zone.
The
latest operation follows another intensive exercise on Monday, when the MCD
carried out 40 demolition actions and sealed eight properties for violations of
the Master Plan of Delhi and Building Bye-Laws.
The
enforcement drive has gained momentum following the recent collapse of a
five-storey building housing a paying-guest accommodation in Satya Niketan, in
which seven people were killed.
The
incident has prompted the civic authorities to increase inspections of
potentially unsafe buildings and properties suspected of violating construction
regulations. The MCD has said that its enforcement campaign will continue
against unauthorised construction and buildings that do not comply with
applicable norms.
Alongside
the demolition and sealing operations, the MCD is conducting a large-scale
survey of paying-guest (PG) accommodation buildings across Delhi.
The
exercise is intended to create a database of PG properties and assess their
compliance with building regulations and other statutory requirements. By
Tuesday, around 2,453 buildings operating PG facilities had been identified,
accommodating approximately 55,000 people.
Officials
have also identified buildings requiring repairs or further scrutiny, with
properties found to be in visibly dangerous condition potentially facing
enforcement action.
The
intensified action highlights the importance of compliance with sanctioned
building plans, the Master Plan of Delhi, building bye-laws and fire-safety
requirements.
For
property owners, builders and operators of residential and PG accommodation,
the ongoing drive is a reminder that unauthorised additions, structural
deficiencies and misuse of properties can lead to enforcement action by civic
authorities.
The MCD
has indicated that inspections and enforcement will continue across Delhi as
authorities seek to identify unsafe structures and curb violations of building
regulations.
The MCD's
continuing enforcement campaign is expected to keep building safety and
regulatory compliance firmly in focus across Delhi's real estate market.
