Greater Chennai Corporation Seeks ₹847.80 Crore in Pending Property Tax

 

Chennai : The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has urged more than six lakh property owners to clear their outstanding property tax dues, as the civic body faces a significant revenue shortfall.

According to the corporation, around ₹847.80 crore in property tax remains unpaid by property owners across Chennai. The civic body has appealed to defaulters to settle their dues promptly to support the city's ongoing civic and infrastructure development.

Property tax is a key source of revenue for urban local bodies and is used to fund essential services such as road maintenance, drainage, solid waste management, street lighting and other public infrastructure.

The GCC is expected to intensify its collection efforts to improve revenue recovery. Property owners with pending dues have been advised to verify their tax accounts and make payments without further delay.

The move comes as civic authorities focus on strengthening municipal finances and ensuring a more consistent flow of revenue for Chennai's growing infrastructure and public-service requirements.
